DUAL ENROLLMENT AT THE COLLEGE OF CENTRAL FLORIDA
Students with a 3.0 GPA and passing test scores can begin taking college classes for free! Dual Enrollment is a great opportunity and a big responsibility. You need to be able to work independently. You are treated the same as an adult student. To help prepare you for this, it is your responsibility to sign up for dual enrollment. I can NOT do this process for you. However, here are the steps you need to take, and I can answer your questions.
First, sign up to take the PERT. You can sign up by emailing [email protected]
or you can take it at the college https://www.cf.edu/academics/academic-services/testing-and-assessment/test-directory/placement-testing/
Second, Review this information sheet. https://pr.cf.edu/files/SA-DE9_Dual_Enrollment_Program-InfoDates.pdf
Third, Read EVERYTHING on this webpage about dual enrollment. Click all the links and read it all. https://www.cf.edu/admissions/information-for-students/dual-enrollment-high-school/traditional-dual-enrollment/
Fourth, complete the application. The steps are here: https://pr.cf.edu/files/SA-DE13_Online_Application_Steps.pdf
Fifth, (after you get your CF student ID number) Complete these forms and bring them to me.
https://pr.cf.edu/files/SA-DE16_Dual_Enrollment_Student_Registration_Agreement.pdf
https://pr.cf.edu/files/SA-DE10_CF_Dual_Enrollment_Application_Checklist.pdf
https://pr.cf.edu/files/SA-DE4_Dual_Enrollment_Signature_Page.pdf
6th Then you will select your classes with the dual enrollment advisor at the College. Once you have been admitted you will receive an email with the instructions on how to sign into your CF portal and register for a session under the Start Smart tab. Orientations are held here on the college campus.
7th After you pick your classes at the college, we will adjust your schedule here at LWHS to accommodate your college class meeting times. Most people do LWH in the morning then go to CF in the afternoon or take college classes online.
If you don't have access to print these forms at home, you can do so in the media center, or I can print them for you in the Guidance office.
TIP: When you go to the application page, scroll down to the very bottom section. The very bottom left side section is the application for Dual Enrollment students.

Happy New Year!
THIS MONTH, STUDENTS WILL BE TAUGHT TO WRITE SMART GOALS FOR THE REST OF THE SCHOOL YEAR. WE HAVE AFTER-SCHOOL TUTORING HERE AT SCHOOL AND CREDIT RECOVERY BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL TO HELP STUDENTS ACHIEVE THEIR ACADEMIC GOALS. AS YOUR SCHOOL COUNSELOR FOR MORE DETAILS.
December 2023
The School Counselor title was changed over ten years ago in legislation, yet many still use the outdated term "guidance counselors." I'm proud to serve as a School Counselor at LWH. Feel free to read below if you are curious about our title change and our purpose in schools.
We have three more weeks until the end of the semester. Students will earn 1/2 credit for each class they pass with a semester average of a D or higher. Students still have time to pull up their grades.
I am visiting world history classes to briefly check in with students about their grades and to give them time to complete career exploration using the Xello app on the students' desktop. They can also access this app at home and share the results with family members.

January News
Dear Parents,
Report cards went home January 6th. The students can also pull up their grades on skyward, and if you have a parent portal, you can see the grades there as well. I am mailing letters to parents if their child received a D or F 2nd quarter.
We would like to see students earn a C or higher in every class. Students earn ½ credit for each class they pass during the first semester. Students receive no credit for failed courses. However, first and second semester grades are averaged together. If a student earns a high enough grade in the second semester, he or she could still pass the class for the year and earn full credit. Another option is for students to take PLATO credit recovery before school to repeat failed courses. Students will need to provide their own transportation and arrive by 8:10am.
To help students become more successful, we are offering tutoring after school Monday-Thursdays from 3:50-5:00pm. Some bus transportation to hub stops is available. You can sign your child up for tutoring by completing the Student/Parent Tutor Contract form. You can keep up with your child's progress throughout the year by viewing their grades using the parent portal. I encourage you to check their grades weekly if possible. To sign up for the parent portal, please see Mrs. Stuart in the guidance office.
If you would like to contact any of your child’s teachers, teacher emails are listed on our LWHS website in the Faculty and Staff Director. Please allow teachers 24-48 hours to respond to emails. https://www.marionschools.net/domain/23410

If you would like to schedule a parent teacher conference, please call Mrs. Stuart in the guidance office.
To be eligible to participate in extracurricular activities like clubs, sports, and school dances, students must have a 2.0 grade point average (a C average). D and F grades place students at risk for falling below a 2.0 and potential loss of credits. To be on track, 9th grade students need to pass all 6 classes and earn all 6 credits this school year. Please feel free to email or call me at the school if you have any questions or concerns. Together, we can help your child to have a successful 9th grade year.
November News
November is a great time to be thankful. But you can practice gratitude all year round. Gratitude is taking time to notice and appreciate the good things in your life. Gratitude can make people happier, increase self-esteem, decrease depression, and help you sleep better. Try gratitude at meal times, at bedtime, in the morning, or when you feel down or stressed. You can use a journal, an app on your phone, share with a friend or family member, or just reflect by yourself. Ask yourself, what blessings do I take for granted? Who am I thankful for? Has something good happened to me today? Give gratitude a try.
